Royal St. George Youths Join the 1720 Revival

It has come to light that the for the first time in the 1720 Class existence an organised Youth Squad of club members will compete within the class. With over 14 boats in the Dún Laoghaire basin, it was only a matter of time until a Yacht Club offered its Youth members a viable stepping-stone to the Keelboat scene. With two 1720 within each of the Royal Irish, Royal St. George and the National Yacht Club and a further 8 vessels run by the Irish National Sailing Club the 1720 Class is very much alive in Dublin Bay.

The Royal St. George Yacht Club will be running trials in the coming weeks in order to finalise their youth squad of 1720 cadets. The final teams will then sharpen their skills prior to travelling to the European Championships bound for Kinsale Yacht Club from the 26th to the 29th of June.

This initiative by the Royal St. George Yacht Club will hopefully see further Clubs follow their lead and support youth development with the sport of Sailing. The influx of young sailors to the 1720 Class is greatly welcomed and certainly will see the guaranteed future of this vibrant class. It will, without doubt, produce many future keelboat champions in the years to come.
